Terms of use
Last updated 12 October 2026
These terms are between you and [operator's name] ("we"), who run Chess Sensei. By creating an account you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data.
The service
Chess Sensei helps you get better at chess: you review your games (writing down what you were thinking, then comparing it with an engine's analysis), practice positions from your own mistakes, learn openings and build a repertoire, and drill the basic endgames. It's free. We may change, add or remove features, and we'll try to give notice before removing anything important.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 (or older where your country requires it).
- Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- One person per account.
Your content
Your games and notes stay yours. You give us permission to store and process them only to run the service for you (for example, to show them to you on any device and to analyze them). You can download or delete them at any time. Only link chess.com or Lichess accounts that are yours.
Fair use
Don't use Chess Sensei to break the law, attack or overload the service, get at other people's data, or scrape it automatically. We may suspend accounts that do.
The analysis
Verdicts, evaluations, puzzles, opening courses and statistics, and endgame drills come from software and public data (Stockfish, the Lichess open database and tablebase). They're very good, but not infallible, and they're for learning, not a guarantee of anything.
No warranty
The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data; please keep your own copy of anything important ("Download my data" makes that easy). Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited.
Ending
You can delete your account whenever you like. We may close accounts that break these terms, and if we ever shut the service down we'll give you time to download your data.
Changes and law
If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA. Questions: support@thechesssensei.com.
Chess Sensei uses open-source software; see the credits at the foot of the app. Stockfish is free software under the GNU GPL v3, and its source is available at github.com/nmrugg/stockfish.js.
